To Patricia Holcomb On Facebook, Colorblindness Is A Myth And Not Experienced By Blacks - Video

To Patricia Holcomb On Facebook, Colorblindness Is A Myth And Not Experienced By Blacks On Facebook, a person I do not know chimed in to a response I wrote to a friend. The friend posted #ItalianAmerican in a post praising The Governor of New York. I simply asked that she and anyone else use the hashtag #AfricanAmerican when pointing out the great works someone who happens to be black does. Young people should see all kinds of folks recognizing greatness in African Americans and Italian Americans and all Americans. I was pointing out that there is nothing wrong with that, look at Martin Luther King, Jr. She said that greatness doesn’t see color. I see the point she is trying to make, but in the context of my entry, it came off as gaslighting, in my view. For blacks, the idea of colorblindness in society is a happy myth never seen in real life. We are reminded of our color many times a day, daily. So, why not see color, blackness or whiteness, or ethnicity, positively? There’s nothing wrong with that. Stay tuned.
