Coaches Pass Interference Challenge Rule Approved By NFL - Video

Coaches Pass Interference Challenge Rule Approved By NFL The coaches pass interference challenge rule idea that surfaced at the NFL Annual Meeting, and was borne of the non-call in the 2019 NFC Championship Game, is now an official rule. Via NFL 2019 Resolution G4, NFL Coaches now have the two minute challenge rule that was previously in the hands of the replay official. This means that a coach can throw a challenge flag against a pass play, if that person thinks a pass interference call should have been made. The new rule was passed at the NFL Spring League Meeting in Key Biscayne, Florida. Here's the NFL 2019 G4 Resolution: Whereas, membership approved 2019 Playing Rule Proposal No. 6C to establish pass interference (offensive and defensive; called or not called on the field) as a reviewable play in the Replay System, with such reviews initiated by a coaches’ challenge as provided for in Rule 15, Section 2, Article 1, and by a member of the Officiating department from a location in the League office or a Replay Official from a Replay Booth (“Replay Official”) as provided for in Rule 15, Section 2, Article 2; and Whereas, the Football Operations department in collaboration with the Competition Committee will be conducting conference call sessions during the first week of June with all coaching staffs to discuss the implementation of Playing Rule Proposal No. 6C; Resolved, that the membership delegates to the Competition Committee the authority to modify Rule 15, Section 2 as follows: By permitting a coach, instead of the Replay Official, to initiate a challenge for pass interference after the two-minute warning of each half and throughout any overtime period; That pass interference shall not be the subject of a review unless specifically challenged by a coach or as part of a replay review of plays identified in Rule 15, Section 2, Article 2(a) – (d) and (h) (scoring plays, Trys, and turnover plays); and Whether any play situations should be excluded from a coach’s challenge. If the Committee determines to modify the rule in the manner set forth above, no other provision of the Replay System shall be modified. Stay tuned.
